lindseyk101: I effing love foster, but hate pumped up kicks. Houdini is a GREAT song! They play a lot of Foster songs on the work playlist. But that whole rain thing is so great at outdoor concerts. It happened at Bonnaroo right before Eminem came on and it was so intense.

yeah it just intensifies the bond of the crowd so much more!!  <3

Foster The People at Central Park last night

effing Foster the People Concert

Best show I’ve ever attended (disregarding the fact that I’ve really only been to two other concerts ever).  Kimbra and The Kooks opened, revealing to me two amazing new artists.  Kimbra sounded very similar to Jessie J before all her collabs with American rappers that I wasn’t to fond of.  A lot of really high notes and yelling but it was all beautiful and with a great sort of vintage beat.  That mixed with Amy Winehouse.  These women with black hair and British/New Zealand accents can belt it!  Not much to say about The Kooks; I’ll most likely download an album though.  The singer’s ween was totally out there in his tight brown skinnies.

So, the sky threatened rain or a storm about halfway through the show.  Everyone in the crowd (including tons of girls in awesome hipster outfits omg) had their hands up intermittently pleading the rain gods to let loose.  Before Foster came up, the stage crew busied themselves lining everything with plastic or tarps.  Oh god, then the headlining set started and it was all so beautiful: the lights, the fog, the strong cool wind every now and again from the imminent storm, the sick fucking music.

I usually am self conscious about putting my hands up and letting loose at shows, and this was the first time I didn’t give one fuck and was jumping and singing with hands up and pumping. <3

AND THEN THE RAIN.  There had been a severe gust while they were performing I Would Do Anything For You, which was an epic song for that natural accompaniment.  Foster had his hands out to either side when the wind hit, it was like he was flying on the Titanic.  Then, later on, as they were opening Houdini, small drips started falling from the pinkish grey clouds that had rolled in and everyone started murmuring to one another that it was coming and had their hands to the sky again, both for the music and the rain.  Goddamn, Houdini is one of my favorites off the album, and for it to start pouring right in the middle of such an epic song was a riveting experience.  Just jumping and singing and getting drenched, and doing so along with hundreds of others… no words.

We all knew they’d leave Pumped Up Kicks for last because it’s the song that catapulted them to fame and it’s the track everyone was most likely anxious to hear.  They got off stage after Houdini as a few patrons left because of the weather (-_-).  But to the avail of the rest of the devoted crowd, Foster ran back on stage and performed a siiick version of Pumped Up Kicks with a dupstep mix in the middle, all in the pouring rain.  The crowd was crazy at this point and we all mutually pushed to the front and got really packed.  It was such a pulsating, stimulating, emotional last set.
